Yesterday I was at the grocery store in the meat department asking the young man behind the counter a question. We were having trouble hearing each other because we both had on masks. He walked away to check on what I was looking for, and I glanced around and noticed that EVERYONE had on a mask. At that moment, I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone! It felt SO strange to see everyone wearing a mask AND I was wearing one too! This is happening at this public place where I have been so many times before with NO mask or cares of getting too close to anyone. Just a few months back, if someone told us this would be the situation (everyone wearing masks), we would have laughed and not believed it. It really feels so ridiculous and uncomfortable.
What is the Twilight Zone? Well it was a show back in the late 50s where strange things happened to ordinary people. Well, that resonates! Also, a definition of Twilight Zone is: a conceptual area that is undefined or intermediate. Hmmmm. Resonates! What is going on!?! My Ego wants the madness to stop and go back to normal. But, this is our reality now. And it will be much easier to live this new life if I decide to roll with the punches and stop resisting the change. So, in the middle of the meat department at my local grocery store, I had a little laugh. Wow! This is different and at times uncomfortable, but I can chose to accept things as they are and not cause myself undue suffering. Let me look at all the gifts offered by this new life. A Spiritual teacher I follow (Sonia Choquette) recently said "Although we must accept our present circumstance, we don't have to suffer them. We have a choice in how we respond to our current challenges. The more creative, loving, and lighthearted we meet with what is upon us, the better off we will be. This is true not only for our own mental and spiritual health but also for our planet’s health as well." Wise words that I have taken to heart! :)
